Roof Waterproofing Sydney

Roof Waterproofing

Roof and podium waterproofing across Sydney – residential, commercial and remedial.

We membrane flat roofs, terraces, podiums and plant areas, and repair roofs that are already leaking. Liquid applied, torch-on and sheet systems, specified to suit the substrate and the exposure rather than whatever is quickest to lay.

Membrane systems we use

  • Liquid applied membrane. Seamless, and the best option around complex detailing – penetrations, plinths, ducting and upstands. What you can see on our commercial rooftop work.
  • Torch-on bituminous membrane. Tough, proven, and well suited to large flat areas and exposed roofs.
  • Sheet membrane. Consistent thickness, laid to detail, good for podiums and areas going under topping.
  • Polyurethane and acrylic coatings. For roofs where a full strip isn’t warranted and the substrate is sound.

The right system depends on the substrate, the falls, the exposure and what’s going on top. We’ll explain why we’re recommending one over another.

Commercial rooftops

We work on commercial and multi-residential rooftops across Sydney – full membrane systems taken around plant, ducting, outlets and parapets, on live construction sites and to programme.

Rooftop plant areas are where most commercial roofs eventually leak. Every penetration is a potential failure point, and they multiply once services are installed. Detailing those properly is the difference between a roof that lasts and one that gets patched every winter.

Why flat roofs fail

  • Ponding. Falls that don’t drain leave water sitting. Most membranes tolerate rain; far fewer tolerate permanent standing water.
  • Blocked outlets. A blocked drain turns a roof into a pond, and the load is significant.
  • Penetrations. Anything passing through the membrane – pipes, plinths, handrails, aerials – needs detailing, and often didn’t get it.
  • Movement and thermal cycling. Roofs expand and contract daily. Junctions and upstands take that movement.
  • Age. Membranes have a service life. Exposed ones in Sydney’s UV reach it sooner.

Leak detection

Water rarely enters where it appears inside. It runs along the underside of a slab, follows a service, and shows up metres from the actual defect.

We investigate before we quote a repair, so you’re not paying to seal an area that was never the problem.

Frequently asked

Can you coat over the existing membrane?

Sometimes. If the existing system is sound, adhered and compatible, an overlay is a legitimate and cheaper option. If it’s delaminating or holding water underneath, coating over it just hides the problem. We’ll tell you which you’ve got.

How long does a roof membrane last?

It depends on the system, the exposure and how well it was detailed. A properly specified and installed membrane on a roof that drains should give you well over a decade. One laid over poor falls will not.

Do you work on occupied buildings?

Yes. Most of our commercial and strata work is on occupied buildings. We coordinate access, give notice, and stage the work so the building keeps functioning.
